Together with Cherso and See also:Lussin, the three See also:principal islands of the Quarnero See also:group, it: forms the administrative See also:district of Lussin, belonging to the See also:Austrian crownland of See also:Istria. Veglia is the largest island of the Quarnero group, having an See also:area of 146 sq.m. It is 24 M. See also:long and about 14 M. across at its widest See also:part. The See also:surface is mostly rugged and mountainous; but the central, See also:southern ts%dwetern districts are fertile. The principal See also:town is Veglia. (pop. 2074), situated on the See also:south-west coast, with a See also:good See also:harbour and an interesting See also:cathedral.
