VULPIUS, See also:CHRISTIAN See also:AUGUST (1762-1827) , See also:German author, was See also:born at See also:Weimar on the 23rd of See also:January 1762, and was educated at See also:Jena and See also:Erlangen. In 1790 he returned to Weimar, where See also:Goethe, who had entered into relations with Vulpius'ssister Christine (1765-1816), whom he afterwards married, obtained employment for him. Here Vulpius began, in See also:imitation of Christian Heinrich See also:Spiess, to write a See also:series of romantic narratives. Of these (about sixty in number) his Rinaldo Rinaldini (1797), the See also:scene of which is laid in See also:Italy during the See also:middle ages, is the best. In 1797 Vulpius was given an See also:appointment on the Weimar library, of which he became See also:chief librarian in 18o6. He died at Weimar on the 25th of See also:June 1827.
