WENDS , the name applied by the Germans to the Slays (q.v.) wherever they came in contact with them. It is now used for the See also:Slovenes (q.v.), for the Germanized See also:Polabs (q.v.) in eastern See also:Hanover, and especially for the Lusatian Wends or See also:Sorbs (q.v.).
