After studying See also:theology at See also:Leipzig, See also:Gottingen and See also:Tubingen, he became in 1885 See also:professor ordinarius of systematic theology at See also:Heidelberg, and in 1893 was called to See also:Jena. His See also:work on the teaching of Jesus (See also:Die Lehre Jesu, 1886—189o; Eng. trans. of second See also:part, 1892) made him widely known. He also edited several See also:editions (5th to 8th, 188o—1898) of the Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles in H. A. W. See also:Meyer's See also:series. In May 1904 he delivered two addresses in See also:London on " The See also:Idea and Reality of See also:Revelation, and Typical Forms of See also:Christianity," as the See also:Essex See also:Hall Lectures (published, 1904). His See also:works include: Die christliche Lehre von der menschlichen Vollkommenheit (1882), Der Erfahrungsbeweis See also:fur die Wahrheit See also:des Christentums (1897), and Das Johannesevangelium (1900; Eng. trans., 1902).
