YAMBOLI , a See also:

town of See also:Bulgaria, on the See also:river Tunja, 49 M. W. of See also:Burgas by See also:rail. Pop. (1906) 15,708. It has a large agricultural See also:trade, being situated in the centre of one of the See also:chief See also:corn districts. In the town are the remains of old fortifications, and the ruins of a See also:fine See also:mosque. The bezetlan, or old See also:market-See also:house, is entire, but is now used as a military See also:magazine. An See also:ancient Macedonian town See also:lay some 4 M. N., but Yamboli is first mentioned in the 11th See also:century, when it was known by the Byzantines as Dampolis or Hyampolis.
