YAMLTHIN , a See also:

town and See also:district in the See also:Meiktila See also:division of Upper See also:Burma. The town has a station on the railway 275 M. N. of See also:Rangoon. Pop. (1901) 8680. It is an important centre of See also:trade with the Shan States. The district lies between the Shan States and the Meiktila, See also:Magwe and See also:Toungoo districts; See also:area, 4258 sq. m.; pop. (See also:Tool) 243,197, showing an increase of 18% in the See also:decade. The See also:staple See also:crop is See also:rice, which is irrigated from tanks and canals. Millets and oil-seeds are grown in the N., where drought has more than once caused See also:distress. There are See also:special See also:industries of inlaid See also:metal-See also:work and ornamental pottery. Besides the See also:chief town, Pyinmana and Pyawbwe, both also on the railway, carry on an active trade with the Shan States.
