town of western See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Badajoz; situated 27 M. E.S.E. of Badajoz, on the See also:Merida-See also:Seville railway. Pop. (1900) 12,587. Almendralejo is a thriving town, with broad streets and See also:good See also:modern houses; including the See also:palace of the marquesses of Monsalfid, which contains a museum of See also:Roman antiquities discovered in the neighbourhood. See also:Local prosperity was greatly enhanced during the See also:period 1875–19o5 by the improvement of communications, which enabled the See also:grain, See also:fruit and See also:wine of the See also:Guadiana valley, on the See also:north, and of the upland known as the Tierra de See also:Barros, on the See also:south, to be readily exported by the Merida-Seville railway. See also:Brandy is produced in large quantities.
