BARBUDA , an See also:island in the See also:British See also:West Indies. It lies 25 M. N. of See also:Antigua, of which it is a dependency, in 17° 33' N. and 61° 43' W., and it has an See also:area of 62 sq. m. Pop. (Igor) 775. It is See also:flat and densely wooded. On the western See also:side there is a large See also:lagoon, separated from the See also:sea by a See also:spit of See also:sand. The See also:part of the island under cultivation is very fertile, and the See also:air is remarkable for its purity. See also:Cattle and horses are bred and See also:wild See also:deer are still found. See also:Salt and See also:phosphates of See also:lime are exported. The island was annexed by See also:Great See also:Britain in 1628 and was bestowed in 168o upon the See also:Codrington See also:family who, for more than 200 years, held it as a See also:kind of feudal See also:fief.
