BARBY , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the See also:kingdom of See also:Prussia, on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:Elbe, 82 m. S.W. of See also:Berlin on the See also:direct railway to See also:Cassel. Pop. (1900) 5136. It has two evangelical churches and a See also:seminary for school teachers, which is housed in the former See also:castle of the lords of Barby. The See also:industries are mainly agricultural, but there are See also:sugar factories and breweries. Here from 1749 to 1809 was a See also:settlement of the See also:Herrnhut evangelical brotherhood.
