BARMOTE See also:

COURT (also written BERGHMOTE, BARGEMOTE, BARGEMOTE, BARMOOT) , a name applied to courts held in the See also:lead-See also:mining districts of See also:Derbyshire, See also:England, for the purpose of determining the customs See also:peculiar to the See also:industry and also for the settlements of any disputes which may arise in connexion there-with. Barmote courts are of very See also:ancient origin, having been in existence in the reign of See also:Edward I. Their See also:jurisdiction extends both to the See also:crown lands in the duchy of See also:Lancaster and to those under individual ownership, comprising seven clearly defined districts. Owing to the progress made in See also:modern mining, many of the customs and much of the See also:procedure had become obsolete, and their See also:powers were regulated by the High See also:Peak Mining Customs and See also:Mineral Courts See also:Act 1851. An See also:appeal from the jurisdiction of the courts lies by way of certiorari.
