BONDAGER , a word meaning generally a servant, but specially used in the See also:

south of See also:Scotland and See also:Northumberland as the See also:term for a See also:female outworker whom a married See also:farm-labourer, living in a cottage attached to the farm, undertakes as a See also:condition of his tenancy to See also:supply for See also:field-labour, sometimes also to See also:board and See also:lodge. The origin of the See also:system was a dearth of field-labour.
