BORKUM , an See also:

island of See also:Germany, in the See also:North See also:Sea, belonging to the Prussian See also:province of See also:Hanover, the westernmost of the See also:East Frisian See also:chain, lying between the east and See also:west arms of the See also:estuary of the See also:Ems, and opposite to the Dollart. Pop. about 2500. The island is 5 M. See also:long and 22 m. broad, is a favourite summer resort, and is visited annually by about 20,000 persons. There is a daily steamboat service with See also:Emden, See also:Leer and See also:Ham-See also:burg during the summer months. The island affords pasture for See also:cattle, and a breeding-See also:place for sea-birds.
