Having qualified as a medical See also:man in 1721, he practised at See also:Brunswick and afterwards at Wolfenbiittel. His leisure See also:time was given up to natural See also:history, and especially to See also:mineralogy and See also:botany. He appears to have been the first to introduce the See also:term oolithus to rocks that resemble in structure the See also:roe of a See also:fish; whence the terms oolite and oolitic. He died at Wolfenbiittel on the 21st of See also:March 1753. He published Magnalia Dei in locis subterraneis (Brunswick, 1727), Historia naturalis curiosa lapidis (1727), and See also:Thesaurus subterraneus Ducatus Brunsvigii (1728).
