S.E. of See also:Palermo See also:direct and 83 m. by See also:rail, situated 1930 ft. above See also:sea-level. Pop. (1901) 43,303. The town is of Saracenic origin, as its name See also:Kalat-al-Nisa, the "Ladies' See also:Castle," indicates, and some ruins of the old castle (called Pietrarossa) still exist. Otherwise the town contains no buildings of See also:artistic or See also:historical See also:interest, but it commands striking views. It is the centre of the Sicilian See also:sulphur See also:industry and the seat of a royal school of mines. Two See also:miles See also:east is the interesting See also:Norman See also:abbey of S.
