CALVARY , the conventional See also:

English rendering of the calvaries of the See also:Vulgate, the Latin version of the See also:Greek xpavwv, both meaning " See also:skull " and representing the See also:Hebrew Golgotha, the name given to the See also:scene of See also:Christ's crucifixion. The See also:term " a Calvary " is applied to a sculptured See also:representation of the Crucifixion, either inside a See also:church, or adjoining one in the open See also:air. There are many examples of the latter in See also:France, See also:Italy and See also:Spain.
