He studied at See also:Amiens and See also:Paris, and took orders in the See also:Church of See also:Rome, but devoted himself almost entirely to classical studies. He declined a professorship in the university of See also:Bale, and was afterwards appointed (1722) to the See also:Greek See also:chair in the See also:College de See also:France. He published an edition of See also:Quintilian (1725) and See also:left behind him at his See also:death an edition of the See also:ancient Latin Rhetoricians, which was published in 1756. He furnished much material for See also:Robert See also:Estienne's See also:Thesaurus Linguae Latinae. His See also:nephew, See also:Jean Capperonnier (1716-1775), his successor in the chair of Greek at the College de France, was also a distinguished scholar, and published valuable See also:editions of classical authors—Caesar, See also:Anacreon, See also:Plautus, See also:Sophocles.
