CARINI , a See also:town in the See also:province of See also:Palermo, See also:Sicily, 13 M. by See also:rail W.N.W. of Palermo. Pop. (1901) 13,931. On the See also:coast are some ruins of the See also:ancient Hyccara, the only Sican See also:settlement (probably a fishing See also:village) on the coast. It was stormed and taken by the Athenians in 415 B.C., and the inhabitants, among them the famous courtesan Lais, sold as slaves.
