CELANO , a See also:

town of the, Abruzzi, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Aquila, 73 M. E. of See also:Rome by See also:rail. Pop. (1901) 9725. It is finely situated on a See also:hill above the Lago See also:Fucino, and is dominated by a square See also:castle, with See also:round towers at the angles, erected in its See also:present See also:form in 1450. It contains three churches with 13th See also:century facades in the See also:style of those of Aquila. The origin of the town goes back to Lombard times. A See also:count of Celano is first mentioned in 1178. It was the birthplace of See also:Thomas of Celano, the author of the See also:Dies Irae.
