CHIAVARI , a See also:

town of See also:Liguria, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Genoa, 24 M. S.E. by See also:rail from the town of Genoa. Pop. (1901) 10,397 (town), 12,689 (See also:commune). It is situated near the mouth of the Entella, in the centre of a fertile See also:plain surrounded by mountains except on the S.W., where it comes down to the See also:sea. Its buildings are mostly See also:modern, but it has a ruined See also:castle of 1147. It has an active See also:trade in agricultural products, and manufactures See also:lace, See also:light wicker-seated bentwood chairs, See also:silk, &c.
