COTYS , a name See also:common to several See also:kings of See also:Thrace. The most important of them, a cruel and drunken See also:tyrant, who began to reign in 382 B.C., was involved with the Athenians in a dispute for the See also:possession of the Thracian See also:Chersonese. In this he was assisted by the Athenian See also:Iphicrates, to whom he had given his daughter in See also:marriage. On the revolt of See also:Ariobarzanes from See also:Persia, Cotys opposed him and his ally, the Athenians. In 358 he was murdered by the sons of a See also:man whom he had wronged.
