DELMENHORST , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, See also:grand duchy of Olden-See also:burg, on the Delme, 8 m. by See also:rail W. from See also:Bremen, at the junction of a See also:line to Vechta. Pop. (1905) 20,147. It has a See also:Protestant and a See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:church, and is the seat of considerable See also:industries; notably See also:wool-combing, See also:weaving, , jute-See also:spinning and the manufacture of linoleum. Delmenhorst was founded in 1230, and from 1247 to 1679, when it was destroyed by the See also:French, was protected by a strong See also:castle.
