ERMELO , a See also:

district and See also:town of the See also:Transvaal. The district lies in the See also:south-See also:east of the See also:province and is traversed by the See also:Drakensberg. In it are See also:Lake Chrissie, the only true lake in the See also:country, and the See also:sources of the See also:Vaal, Olifants, See also:Komati, and Usuto See also:rivers, which rise within 3o m. of one another. The region has a See also:general See also:elevation of about 5500 ft. and is See also:fine agricultural and See also:pastoral country, besides containing valuable minerals, including See also:coal and See also:gold. Ermelo town, pop. (19o4) 1451, is by See also:rail 175 M. S.E. of See also:Johannesburg, and 74 M. S.S.W. of Machadodorp on the See also:Pretoria-Delagoa See also:Bay railway. A See also:government experimental See also:farm, with some moo acres of plantations, is maintained here.
