EXEQUATUR , the See also:

letter patent, issued by a See also:foreign See also:office and signed by a See also:sovereign, which guarantees to a foreign- See also:consul the rights and privileges of his office, and ensures his recognition in the See also:state in which he is appointed to exercise them. If a consul is not appointed by See also:commission he receives no exequatur; and a See also:notice in the See also:Gazette in this See also:case has to suffice. The exequatur may be withdrawn, but in practice, where a consul is See also:obnoxious, an opportunity is afforded to his See also:government to recall him.
