GADAG, or GARAG , a See also:town of See also:British See also:India, in the See also:Dharwar See also:district of Bombay, 43 M. E. of Dharwar town. Pop. (1901) 30,652. It is an important railway junction on the See also:Southern Mahratta See also:system, with a growing See also:trade in raw See also:cotton, and also in the See also:weaving of cotton and See also:silk. There are factories for ginning and pressing cotton, and a See also:spinning See also:mill. The town contains remains of a number of temples, some of which exhibit See also:fine See also:carving, while See also:inscriptions in them indicate the existence of Gadag as See also:early as the loth See also:century.
