GOMERA , an See also:

island in the See also:Atlantic Ocean, forming See also:part of the See also:Spanish See also:archipelago of the See also:Canary Islands (q.v.). Pop. (rgoo) 15,358; See also:area 144 sq. m. Gomera lies 20 M. W.S.W. of See also:Teneriffe. Its greatest length is about 23 M. The See also:coast is precipitous and the interior mountainous, but Gomera has the most See also:wood and is the best watered of the See also:group. The inhabitants are very poor. Dromedaries are bred on Gomera in large See also:numbers. See also:San See also:Sebastian (3187) is the See also:chief See also:town and a See also:port. It was visited by See also:Columbus on his first voyage of See also:discovery in 1492.
