GOUACHE , a See also:

French word adapted from the Ital. guazzo (probably in origin connected with " See also:wash "), meaning literally a " See also:ford," but used also for a method of See also:painting in opaque See also:water-See also:colour. The See also:colours are mixed with or painted in a vehicle of See also:gum or See also:honey, and whereas in true water-colours the high See also:lights are obtained by leaving See also:blank the See also:surface of the See also:paper or other material used, or by allowing it to show through a translucent wash in " gouache," these are obtained by See also:white or other See also:light colour.
