HOLYWOOD , a seaport of See also:

county Down, See also:Ireland, on the See also:east See also:shore of See also:Belfast Lough, 41 M. N.E. from Belfast by the Belfast & County Down railway. Its pleasant situation renders it a favourite residential locality of the wealthier classes in Belfast. There was a religious See also:settlement here from the 7th See also:century, which subsequently became a Franciscan monastery. The old See also:church dating from the See also:late 12th or See also:early 13th century marks its site. A See also:Solemn See also:League and See also:Covenant was signed here in 1644 for the See also:defence of the See also:kingdom, and the document is preserved at Belfast.
