Ill Ireland the High See also:Court has the same See also:summary See also:powers in cases of contempt, and the See also:term " court of summary See also:jurisdiction " has the same meaning as in See also:England (See also:Interpretation See also:Act 1889, s. 13 [n]), subject to the See also:definition of the Summary Jurisdiction (Ireland) Acts, which are, as regards the See also:Dublin See also:metropolitan See also:police See also:district, the acts regulating the powers and duties of justices of the See also:peace or of the police of that district, and as respects any other See also:part of Ireland the See also:Petty Sessions (Ireland) Act 1851 (14 and 15 Vict. c. 93) and any act amending the same. The acts are more extensive in their purview than the See also:English acts, as they See also:form in a See also:great degree a See also:code of substantive See also:law as well as of See also:procedure. By an act of 1884 the same jurisdiction was given as to offences by See also:children as by the act of 1879 in England. Stipendiary or See also:resident magistrates may be appointed in the See also:place of unpaid justices under an act of 1836 (6 & 7 W. IV. C. 13). The exceptional See also:political circumstances of Ireland have led to the conferring at different times on courts of summary jurisdiction of an authority, generally temporary, greater than that which they can exercise in Great See also:Britain. See also:Recent instances are the Peace Preservation Act 1881, and the Prevention of Crimes Act 1882, both expired, and the Criminal Law and Procedure (Ireland) Act 1887.
