JANGIPUR, or JAHANGIRPUR , a See also:town of See also:British See also:India, in See also:Murshidabad See also:district, See also:Bengal, situated on the Bhagirathi. Pop. (1901), 10,921. The town is said to have been founded by the See also:Mogul See also:emperor See also:Jahangir. During the See also:early years of British See also:rule it was an important centre of the See also:silk See also:trade, and the site of one of the See also:East India See also:Company's commercial residencies. Jangipur is now best known as the See also:toll station for registering all the See also:traffic on the Bhagirathi. The number of boats registered annually is about 10,000.
