He was well known as editor of the Archiv See also:fur Bergbau and Huttenwesen (20 vols., 1818–1831); and (with, H. von See also:Dechen) of the Archiv fur Mineralogie; Geognosie, Bergbau and Hiittenkunde (26 vols., 1829-1854). He died at See also:Berlin on the 22nd of See also:August 1853. His son, Dr See also:Hermann Karsten (1809-1877), was See also:professor of See also:mathematics and physics in the university of See also:Rostock.
