KOLYVAR . (I) A See also:

town of See also:West See also:Siberia, in the See also:government of See also:Tomsk, on the Chaus See also:river, 5 M. from the Ob and 120 M. S.S.W. of the See also:city of Tomsk. It is a wealthy town, the merchants carrying on a considerable export See also:trade in See also:cattle, hides, See also:tallow, See also:corn and See also:fish. It was founded in 1713 under the name of Chausky See also:Ostrog, and has grown rapidly. Pop. (1897), 11,703. (2) KOLYVANSKIY ZAVOD, another town of the same government, in the See also:district of Biysk, See also:Altai region, on the Byelaya river, 192 M. S.E. of See also:Barnaul; See also:altitude, 1290 ft. It is renowned for its See also:stone-cutting factory, where See also:marble, See also:jasper, various porphyries and breccias are worked into vases, columns, &c. Pop., 5000.
