He was educated at a military school, and served in the See also:army from 1772-1784, when he was appointed inspector of mines. His See also:attention in his leisure See also:time was wholly given to See also:mineralogy, and he assisted in organizing the new Ecole See also:des Mines in Paris. He was author of numerous mineralogical papers in the See also:Journal and Annales des Mines. The See also:mineral laumontite was named after him by flatly. He died in Paris on the 1st of See also:June 1834.
