MANDAN , a tribe of See also:North See also:American See also:Indians of Siouan. stock. When first met they were living on the See also:Missouri at the mouth of the See also:Heart See also:river. At the beginning of the 19th See also:century they were driven up the Missouri by the See also:Sioux. In 1845 they joined the See also:Gros Ventres and later the Arikaras, and settled in their See also:present position at Fort Berthold See also:reservation, North Dakota.
