MEERANE , a See also:

town in the See also:kingdom of See also:Saxony, 9 m. N. of See also:Zwickau and 37 S. of See also:Leipzig by See also:rail. Pop. (1905), 26,005. It contains a See also:fine See also:medieval See also:church (Evangelical). It is one of the most important See also:industrial centres of See also:Germany for the manufacture of woollen and mixed cloths, and in these products has a large export See also:trade, especially to See also:America and the Far See also:East. There are also extensive dyeworks, tanneries and See also:machine factories. See See also:Leopold, Chronik and Beschreibung der Fabrik- and See also:Handel, stadt Meerane (1863).
