S.E. of that See also:city by the railway to See also:Piacenza, 289 ft. above See also:sea-level. Pop. (1901), 6782. There are remains of a See also:castle of the See also:Visconti. Its military importance is due to its position at the See also:crossing of the See also:river Lambro. It was a stronghold of Milan in her See also:great struggle against See also:Lodi, and is famous for the victory of See also:Francis of See also:France over the Swiss in 1515, known as the See also:battle .of See also:Marignan, and for the See also:action between the See also:French and Austrians in 1859.
