MIAMI , a tribe of See also:North See also:American See also:Indians of Algonquian stock. The See also:English called them Twightwees, a corruption of the native name, which meant the cry of the See also:crane. They were first found in See also:south-eastern See also:Wisconsin, and in 1764 numbered about 1750. Their See also:civilization was advanced and they lived in stockaded towns. At the See also:close of this war they were greatly reduced in See also:numbers. A few Miami still live on a See also:reservation in See also:Oklahoma and in See also:Wabash See also:county, See also:Indiana.
