N. of See also:Rome and 12 M. S. of Narnia. It concluded an See also:alliance with Rome in 308 B.C. The See also:modern See also:village lies higher than the ancient town, and excavations on the site of the latter in 1775 and following years led to the See also:discovery of the See also:baths, a See also:theatre, a See also:basilica and other buildings. In the baths were found a number of See also:works of See also:art, now in the Vatican, notably the See also:mosaic See also:pavement of the See also:Sala della Rotonda, and the celebrated See also:head of See also:Zeus and the head of See also:Claudius in the same See also:room. An See also:amphitheatre is still visible, but the other buildings have in the See also:main been covered up again.
