POPPER, See also:DAVID (1846— ) , Bohemian violoncellist, was See also:born at See also:Prague, and educated musically at the conservatorium there, adopting the 'cello as his professional See also:instrument. He was soon recognized, largely through von Billow, as one of the finest soloists of the See also:time, and played on See also:tours throughout the See also:European capitals. In 1872 he married the pianist Sophi Menter, from whom he was separated in 1886. In 1896 he became See also:professor at the Royal See also:Conservatoire at See also:Budapest. He published various See also:works, mainly compositions for- the 'cello, together with four volumes of studies arranged as a See also:violoncello school.
