PRAETUTTII (also called IIpacrerrioi) , a tribe of See also:ancient See also:Italy inhabiting the See also:south of See also:Picenum. Their territory See also:lay between the See also:rivers Vomanum and Tessinnus (See also:Pliny iii. § 110), and therefore included Castrum Novum, Interamnia and the Truentus, as well as probably the See also:original of See also:Hadria. From this name was derived the See also:medieval See also:form A prutium (quoted by See also:Kiepert in his Alte Geographic), and hence the See also:modern Abruzzo (more commonly in the plural gli Abruzzi), denoting the whole central See also:mountain See also:land of Italy. We have no See also:evidence, except their name, and that throws no See also:light on their See also:language, for separating them from the other inhabitants of Picenum (q.v.). (R. S.
