RABENER, GOTTLIEB WILHELM (1714–1771) , See also:German satirist, was See also:born on the 17th of See also:September 1714 at Wachau near See also:Leipzig, and died at See also:Dresden on the 22nd of See also:March 1771. In 1741 he made his debut as satirist in See also:Schwabe's Belustigungen See also:des Verstandes and Witzes, and was subsequently a contributor to the See also:Bremer Beitrage. Rabener's satires are in See also:prose and mainly levelled at the follies of the See also:middle classes. The papers which he published in the Bremer Beitrage were subsequently collected in a Sammlung satirischer Schriften (2 vols., 1751), to which two volumes were added in 1755. Rabener's Sdmtliche Werke appeared in 6 vols. in 1777; the edition by E. Ortlepp (1839) also contains his See also:correspondence, first published by C. F. See also:Weisse in 1772. See P. See also:Richter, Rabener and Liscow (1884), and D. Jacoby in Allg. Deutsche Biographie (1888).
