RAMNICUVALCEA(Rimnicu Vdlcea) , or Rymnik, an episcopal See also:city and the See also:capital of the See also:department of Valcea, See also:Rumania; situated at the See also:foot of the Carpathians, on the right See also:bank of the See also:river Olt, and on the railway from See also:Caracal to Hermannstadt in Transylvania. Pop. (1900) 7317. Three monasteries in the Valcea department, those of Bistritza, Cozia and Horezu, are among the finest in See also:Walachia. Besides See also:wine, See also:fruit, See also:grain and See also:timber, the surrounding uplands yield See also:petroleum and See also:salt. Within a few See also:miles are the thermal springs of Olanestzi and the salt mines of Ocnele Mari. The city is said to be the See also:ancient Castra Traiana, and many traces of old encampments See also:bear See also:evidence of this.
