REQUENA , a See also:

town of E. See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Valencia; on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:river Magro, and on the railway from Valencia to Utiel. Pop. (1900) 16,236. The town was formerly a Moorish fortress, occupying a strong position in the mountainous region of See also:Las Cabrillas (3400 ft). It is dominated by the See also:ancient citadel of the See also:Moors, and still has traces of the See also:original town walls. There are three ancient See also:parish churches; See also:San See also:Nicolas, the See also:oldest, See also:dates from the 13th See also:century, but was partly restored in 1727. Near the town are the sulphurous springs of Fuentepodrida. The See also:chief See also:industries are the cultivation of See also:grain, See also:fruit and See also:saffron, and the manufacture of See also:wine and See also:silk.
