SHIBARGHAN , a See also:town and khanate of Afghan See also:Turkestan. The town lies some 6o m. W. of See also:Balkh, and contains 12,000 inhabitants, Uzbegs and Parsiwans. It has a citadel, but is not otherwise fortified, and is surrounded by See also:good gardens and excellent cultivation. The khanate is one of the " four domains," which were See also:long in dispute between See also:Bokhara and See also:Kabul, but were allotted to the Afghans by the Anglo-See also:Russian boundary agreement of 1873.
