SUNDA ISLANDS , the collective name of the islands in the See also:Malay See also:Archipelago which extend from the, Malay See also:Peninsula to the See also:Moluccas. They are divided into the See also:Great Sunda Islands—i.e. See also:Sumatra, See also:Java, See also:Borneo, See also:Celebes, See also:Banka and See also:Billiton, with their adjacent islands—and the Little Sunda Islands, of which the more important are See also:Bali, See also:Lombok, See also:Sumbawa, See also:Flores, See also:Sumba and See also:Timor. Sunda Strait is the channel separating Sumatra from Java and uniting the See also:Indian Ocean with the Java See also:Sea. It is 15 1n. broad between the See also:south-eastern extremity of Sumatra and the See also:town of Anjer in Java. In the See also:middle is the See also:low-lying well-wooded See also:island of See also:Dwars-in-den-Weg (" right in the way "), otherwise Middle Island or Sungian.
