DWARS , a See also:

It consists of two divisions, the Western Dwars and the Eastern Dwars, both of which belonged to See also:Bhutan See also:prior to the Bhutan See also:War of 1864-65, as a result of which they passed into See also:possession of the See also:British, when the Eastern Dwars were assigned to See also:Assam and the Western to See also:Bengal. Since 1905 both divisions have been in the See also:province of Eastern Bengal and Assam. The five Eastern Dwars, entitled respectively Bijni, Sidli, Chirang, Ripu and Guma, are situated in the See also:Goalpara See also:district of Eastern Bengal and Assam, forming a See also:strip of See also:flat country lying beneath the Bhutan mountains. It is an unhealthy country for natives as well as Europeans, and is but slightly See also:developed. The Western Dwars See also:form a region lying at the See also:foot of the Himalayas in the north-east of the See also:Jalpaiguri district of Eastern Bengal and Assam, which comprises nine parganas, namely, Bhalka, Bhatibari, Baxa, Chakao-See also:Kshattriya, Madari, Lakshmipur, Maraghat, lvIainaguri and Chengmari. The Western Dwars are an important centre of the See also:tea-planting See also:industry.
