THANN , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in Upper See also:Alsace, 16 m. by See also:rail N.W. of Miilhausen. Pop. (1905) 7901. It is the seat of See also:cotton, See also:calico, See also:silk, machinery and other See also:industries, and excellent See also:wine is grown there. The (See also:Roman See also:Catholic) See also:church of St See also:Theobald (1351) is an elegant specimen of See also:Gothic, and has a remark-ably See also:fine See also:tower (1450-1516), 266 ft. high. Above the town are the ruins of the See also:castle of Engelburg, destroyed by See also:Turenne in 1675.
