ZINNIA , in See also:

botany, a genus of the natural See also:order See also:Compositae, containing about a dozen See also:species of See also:half-See also:hardy See also:annual or perennial herbs or undershrubs, natives of the See also:southern See also:United States and See also:Mexico. The numerous single and See also:double See also:garden forms are mostly derived from Zinnia elegans, and grow about 2 ft. high, producing See also:flowers of various See also:colours, the double ones being about the See also:size of asters, and very handsome. The colours include See also:white, yellow, See also:orange, See also:scarlet, See also:crimson and See also:purple. Zinnias do best in a See also:rich deep loamy See also:soil, in a sunny position. They should be sown on a See also:gentle hotbed at the end of See also:March or in See also:April and planted out See also:early in See also:June.
