Chapter 3

Daily Routine

A daily routine helps a person stay centered and prevents new blocking of the Kundalini as it races through the body. It also gives you the feeling of doing something, of being in some kind of control. Daily routines also help stabilize any "weirdness."It is best if you design your own daily routine to fit your personal needs. Below are some suggestions; modify them or make any changes you deem necessary. You may think of disciplining yourself to follow your daily routine. However, discipline is imposing form and structure upon yourself. This is in direct opposition to the Kundalini, which opts for more flowing and results in motivation: doing things because you "want to" rather than the "have to" of discipline. A person's daily routine will then have much greater benefit because energy is flowing rather than being forced. If you have trouble in getting motivated, you might try imagining yourself doing the exercises or other parts of the routine. This puts the energy into the body, and as it seeks expression motivation will automatically be there.

Exercise
Some type of physical activity is imperative when Kundalini released. It is necessary to keep energy moving, thus preventing o ,, blocks and concentrations of energies which cause bleeding, pain, or other physical problems. People should decide individually what physical exercise is most helpful. I have found that slow, graceful stretching combined with deep, peaceful breathing is very beneficial. I have also found free form dancing to be exceptionally helpful.

Free Form Dancing
In free form dancing the body helps with the dance through expression of feelings, thoughts, or body sensations. Everyone's style is different because what each person works with is different. If you feel uncomfortable dancing, you may wish to lock your bedroom door or wait until no one else is home. Many people (especially men) feel quite inhibited with free form movement; they may prefer Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese form of energy movement, incredibly effective in releasing and moving energy. Some people may find that dancing releases too much too fast and need to go a little slower with it.
Free form dancing generally includes a lot of arm movement, bringing energy releases and great changes in the body. Tightening and hunching the shoulders, you control energy in your body and hold back expression, which arm movement automatically releases.
At first most people feel comfortable moving only the upper part of the body; but be sure to include the bottom half of your body as well. Many people feel bound up or restricted by their bodies and wish to be free of them. They forget they added the restrictions in the first place, whether through blocking expression or creating body tension through fear, excessive worry or overwork . We can learn to feel great freedom through the body.
Vary your music selections; different types work differently. If no music is available, you may wish to "sound" the feelings inside you. In sounding, make whatever noise wishes to come out. An alternative is to "sound" or feel an imaginary rhythm.
Other aids in getting started include dancing while sitting down, stretching as a dance form, or lying down and daydreaming the dance prior to dancing.

Variations

  1. Guide your awareness to the superficial facia (the area just under the skin all over the body). Continued awareness will release the energy in the facial system, influencing the dance. This is extrabeneficial for circulation.
  2. Imagine yourself in a different time period, wearing cloth
  • Throughout, include any prayers or mantras you wish.
  • While visualizing the energy in and around Sushumna and throughout your body, visualize what you will do the next day (if you do the exercise in the morning, visualize the day's activities). This makes your work more balanced and effective.
  • Visualizing the energy in and around Sushumna and throughout your body, lift up your chest and take deep, peaceful breaths; this aids in cleansing and refining the body. Also be aware of your chakras flowing and glowing.
  • Think of the spine, the most important super-highway for Kundalini flow. Maintain plenty of space for the nerves to carry on their communicating work. Blood vessels in this area also use this infrastructure. The entire system works better when the spine is in "good shape."
  • Doing any of these variations outdoors can open you to a new awareness of nature. Exercising outdoors at least once a season helps keep you in the rhythm of life.
  • Standing outdoors, visualize gold and silver energy in and around Sushumna radiating outwards. Add an awareness of this energy going deeply into the Earth, and steeply into the Heavens, increasing your feeling of connection with eternity while you are very presently here.
  • While doing (d), balance overall growth by spending some time in awareness of your physical body, then of your emotional, mental and spiritual levels.
  • Also while doing (d), be aware of your right and left sides, including right and left brains; feel them in balance. Visualize a very open corpus colossum (bridge between your two brains); feel the light in Sushumna balancing and blending the right and left energies. This promotes creativity and leaves you centered.
  • After visualizing Sushumna full of light, let that light expand to the entire body and visualize all of the Nadis as open and radiant; there are thousands of them in the body which together form an etheric nervous system that has the potential to vivify the entire body and chakras.
  • Use (d) briefly several times during the day as a centering meditation, bringing an inner strength and flow appropriate to the day's activities.

Balanced Life
As much as possible, balance your daily routine; include time on each of the following:

  1. BEING-take some time each day just to let go of everything and simply be. You don't have to justify yourself, prove yourself, or explain yourself; you are what you are. It's good to take a few moments and BE who you are (even if you're not sure who you are).
  2. DOING-whether it's exercise, carrying out the garbage, planning a big financial deal or visiting with friends, DO something. We all need the feeling of having accomplished something. DOING also trains our energy to be usable.
  3. LEARNING-whether something of importance to your life or something you don't even care about, take the time to LEARN something; expand the capability and usefulness of your brain. In a well functioning system, energy flows well through the brain.
  4. INSPIRITING-let spirit flow through you every day, whether through love, joy, union with Divine, creativity or bliss. Inspiriting is an important physical nourishment for our systems and creativity in particular is very important as an expression of the new Kundalini; journaling, writing, doodling, drawing or painting, photography, building collections are all excellent ways to express this energy.

Appreciation
Before you go to sleep at night, feel good about something that you have done, even if it was just getting through the day. You are the only one who really knows how hard you work, the stress you're under and the obstacles in your path; self-appreciation is very important and some days it's the only appreciation you get!
