OTTO- WILHELM See also:HERMANN VON (18o6-1886), See also:German mineralogist and geologist, was See also:born at See also:Berlin on the 11th of See also:December 18o6, and educated at the university in that See also:city. His earliest scientific See also:work related to spinels and other minerals, and later he made See also:special studies of fumaroles, of the See also:mineral deposits around volcanic vents and of the structure of volcanoes. In 1842 he was appointed See also:professor of See also:mineralogy in the university of Dorpat, and henceforth gave See also:attention to the See also:geology and mineralogy of See also:Russia. Residing for some See also:time at See also:Tiflis he investigated the geology of the See also:Caucasus. Ultimately he retired to See also:Vienna, where he died on the 1st of See also:July 1886. The mineral Abichite was named after him.
