ALGAU, or ALLGAU , the name now given to a comparatively small See also:district forming the See also:south-western corner of See also:Bavaria, and belonging to the See also:province of See also:Swabia and See also:Neuburg, but formerly applied to a much larger territory, which extended as far as the See also:Danube on the N., the See also:Inn on the S. and the See also:Lech on the W. The Algau See also:Alps contain several lofty peaks, the highest of which is Madelegabel (8681 ft.). The district is celebrated for its See also:cattle, See also:milk, See also:butter and See also:cheese.
